1936 - 2025Sebaly Shillito + Dyer is saddened to announce the passing of our beloved founder, mentor and friend, Jon Sebaly. Jon was a throwback legal giant. Known for his sharp intellect, wise counsel, fierce advocacy and direct style, Jon guided countless clients through transactions, disputes and opportunities. For almost 60 years, clients and other lawyers sought his advice for both business and litigation matters in an era of increasing specialization.
Jon was a visionary and strategic thinker. At our founding, Jon laid out a detailed vision for Sebaly Shillito + Dyer which still guides us today, including:
- We should aim to practice good law, solve challenging problems at affordable cost to serious clients -- rich or not so rich.
- We will avoid arrogance like the Plague.
- We will be better than others because we give more and better service than others. We must constantly be on the alert for means of giving more and better service.
- We must each constantly strive to be better at what we do. There is no room for complacency.
- We are a community of professionals, some with law degrees. Every person (lawyer and non-lawyer alike) must want to strive and, in fact strive, to be better at what she or he does.
- We must offer much more than a mere job, and those who work here must believe and must have the attitude that their work here is more important than a job.
- We must all enthusiastically commit to giving our all for our clients, our firm and our community, our family, our health and our integrity.
