Sebaly Shillito + Dyer Attorneys selected for inclusion on 2009 Ohio Super Lawyers and Rising Stars Lists

Sebaly Shillito + Dyer is pleased to announce that six of its lawyers have been recognized as 2009 Ohio Super Lawyers®. They include: Jim Dyer, Gale Finley, Dianne Marx, Mike Moloney, Bev Shillito, and Karl Ulrich. In addition, seven of its lawyers have been selected for inclusion in 2009 Ohio Rising Stars. They include: Scott Davies, Kate Earley, Bob Hanseman, Toby Henderson, Todd Robenson, Heather Welbaum, and Danyelle Wright.

The objective of the Super Lawyers® selection process is to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource to assist attorneys and consumers in the search for legal counsel.

Only 5 percent of the total lawyers in the state are selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers®. A candidate pool is created by nomination and by statewide survey. Lawyers cannot nominate themselves and out-of-firm nominations have a higher value than in-firm ones. Lawyers eligible to participate include those who have been in practice for at least five years. Out of the pool created attorney-led research staff searches for outstanding lawyers by statewide survey, reviewing national and local periodicals as well as legal trade journals.

The background and experience of each candidate is researched for evidence of peer recognition and professional achievement. Numerous databases and online sources, in-person and telephonic meetings with law firms are conducted to create the final candidates' pool.

Finally there is the Peer Evaluation by Practice Area where candidates are grouped according to their primary area of practice and panelists review and score a list of candidates from their practice area.

Final candidates are segmented according to firm size (firm size categories vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction). Those with the highest point totals from each category are selected. Only 5 percent of the total lawyers in the state are selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers®.

The selection process for Rising Stars is the same except that: 1) to be eligible for inclusion in Rising Stars, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for ten years or less; 2) Candidates for Rising Stars do not go through a peer evaluation by practice area. While up to five percent of the lawyers in the state are named to Super Lawyers®, no more than 2.5 percent are named to the Rising Stars list.
